Nokia N8's primetime commercial during Oscars.

Lyrics of the song "Don't Fence Me In".

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze,
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in.

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies.
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise.

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hovels and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.

Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze
And listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle
Underneath the western skies
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise.
Ba boo ba ba boo.

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
And gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
And I can't look at hobbles and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.
No.
Poppa, don't you fence me in

Great tune and nice lyrics. You guys probably heard this from the Oscars and searched for the lyrics or the artist of the song. Don’t Fence Me In is an old song. Searching it on YouTube might lead you to old movies playing the original version of the song.

“Don’t Fence Me In” – really strong words if you’re going to connect it to what is happening with Nokia at present. Nokia’s decision of going for Windows 7 Mobile and apparent abandonment of Symbian leaves Nokia/Symbian lovers out in the cold.  I used to be a diehard Nokia fan, I was about to get a Nokia N8 but Elop’s announcement is a deal breaker. So, I’m kind of out in the fence right now, considering Android, iOS and of course W7 for my next mobile phone.

I stayed too long inside a fence, inside Symbian’s fence. I never considered other OS before because of the familiarity and comfort inside Symbian OS. I felt bad at first when the new CEO of Nokia announced the Nokia – Microsoft team up. But after considering other OS, trying out and learning about the other softwares, I felt I was out of the fence. I embrace freedom and breathe fresh air. I am enjoying trying out what other mobile phone manufacturers has to offer.

If only Nokia N8 is upgradeable to Android...
