Is Samsung Galaxy Note’s 5.3” Screen Too Big For You?

How important is a mobile phone’s screen real estate? For me, I want something big enough to watch pictures, play videos and enjoy 3D games, but not too big that it’ll be difficult to hold or a little awkward when putting it next to my ear when taking calls. My ideal screen for mobile phones would be 4.3”, anything bigger than that crosses the tablet category.

The new Samsung Galaxy Note has a 5.3” screen. It is a feature rich, powerful phone and you’ll almost see no flaw on its specs. The battery is a 2500 mAh, which I believe is enough considering that the wider the screen, the more power it requires. It has a stylus which you can’t find on most smartphones at present. I think it’s useful when you want to make doodles on some pictures and for note taking.

Samsung Galaxy Note i9220 specs:
5.3-inch Super AMOLED display @ 1280×800 resolution
Gorilla Glass display
1.4GHz dual-core processor Exynos chip
Mali-400MP GPU
1GB RAM
up to 32GB via microSD (2GB included)
HSPA+ 21Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 3.0
8MP rear camera
1080p full HD video recording
2MP front-facing camera
GPS w/ aGPS support
FM radio tuner
Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread
Samsung TouchWiz UI 4.0

Despite almost being perfect, it’ll come down to whether you like having a cumbersome phone (or a mini tablet) that will be hard to carry. I’m sure putting it on your pockets is not an option. Or you will not think portability as an issue and enjoy the big screen Android. If only Samsung Galaxy S2 has the same battery...

Price of Samsung Galaxy Note is said to be cheaper than the Galaxy S2 and will be released later this year.

Update: Samsung Galaxy Note is expected to have a very expensive price tag of around $1000.

You may be an Apple fanboy or a hater, but I’m sure you’re interested in what the next iPad will be like. Rumor has it that the iPad 2 will be announced on March 2 2011. Apple is being secretive about the specs of the next iPad, but I’m sure it’ll have a faster processor and a front and back camera. It’ll have something to counter punch its rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, Motorola Xoom, BlackBerry Playbook etc.

With the upgrades, it is expected that the price will be more expensive. Tablet buyers might want to wait for the announcement before deciding what new toy to go for.

Nokia C5-03, A Cheap Wi-Fi Touch Screen Phone

Is Nokia starting to name their mobile phones with the names of some road (Circumferential Road 5, C-5 Road) here in the Philippines? I hope they go back to the one letter, 2 digits number naming system of their mobile phones.

The Nokia C5-03 is a Symbian S60 touch phone. It has Wi-Fi, GPS and a fixed focus 5MP camera. Plus, it is really light weight too (93 grams). It has a 3.2” resistive touch screen, which is a disappointment since many prefer a capacitive touch screen. It has no secondary camera for video call and comes with a 2GB microSD card.

Nokia X5-01 Unboxing

During our vacation in Singapore a week ago, my mom decided to look for an affordable Wi-Fi enabled phone to be used as her secondary phone. I recommended the Nokia C3 but was  disappointed by the lack of 3G. A salesman showed us the Nokia X3-02 which is a candy form touch screen phone with Wi-Fi but my mom said it was ordinary looking. Then we stumbled upon a cute looking Nokia phone, the Nokia X5-01. We bought the phone at the Nokia Shop at Funan Digital Life Mall in Singapore at a price of 299 Singaporean Dollar.

The phone has all the usual stuffs except the secondary phone for video conference. It is a square shaped slider phone that has a dedicated button for music access, which can sometimes be annoying since I keep on accidentally pressing it whenever I press the back/exit button. Shaking the phone for changing the music works but you have to shake it hard to do so. The built is great, no wobbly parts so far. The back of the Nokia X5 is made of metal, which make it elegant looking. The memory card is located at the back of the battery; you have to turn the unit off to remove/insert the memory card. The mobile phone got a 2 GB Micro SD included. Other things inside the box are the charger, manuals, PC data connector and cheap looking headphones. The sound of the Nokia X5 is loud and clear. The dancing game is that is installed is fun to play with.
