Nokia C5-03, A Cheap Wi-Fi Touch Screen Phone

Is Nokia starting to name their mobile phones with the names of some road (Circumferential Road 5, C-5 Road) here in the Philippines? I hope they go back to the one letter, 2 digits number naming system of their mobile phones.

The Nokia C5-03 is a Symbian S60 touch phone. It has Wi-Fi, GPS and a fixed focus 5MP camera. Plus, it is really light weight too (93 grams). It has a 3.2” resistive touch screen, which is a disappointment since many prefer a capacitive touch screen. It has no secondary camera for video call and comes with a 2GB microSD card.

During our vacation in Singapore a week ago, my mom decided to look for an affordable Wi-Fi enabled phone to be used as her secondary phone. I recommended the Nokia C3 but was  disappointed by the lack of 3G. A salesman showed us the Nokia X3-02 which is a candy form touch screen phone with Wi-Fi but my mom said it was ordinary looking. Then we stumbled upon a cute looking Nokia phone, the Nokia X5-01. We bought the phone at the Nokia Shop at Funan Digital Life Mall in Singapore at a price of 299 Singaporean Dollar.

The phone has all the usual stuffs except the secondary phone for video conference. It is a square shaped slider phone that has a dedicated button for music access, which can sometimes be annoying since I keep on accidentally pressing it whenever I press the back/exit button. Shaking the phone for changing the music works but you have to shake it hard to do so. The built is great, no wobbly parts so far. The back of the Nokia X5 is made of metal, which make it elegant looking. The memory card is located at the back of the battery; you have to turn the unit off to remove/insert the memory card. The mobile phone got a 2 GB Micro SD included. Other things inside the box are the charger, manuals, PC data connector and cheap looking headphones. The sound of the Nokia X5 is loud and clear. The dancing game is that is installed is fun to play with.

Is it possible to play Mafia Wars, Farmville and other Facebook games and applications using a cell phone? It is possible using a Windows Mobile powered mobile phone. But what if you’re using Symbian OS? It is very possible using a third party browser, Skyfire.

For this, I am using a Nokia N97 and my friend’s other N Series and E Series (E61, E72) Nokia phones. I installed the latest Skyfire browser, connect through wifi and opened my Facebook account. Basically, you can play videos and music using the browser.  Skyfire

My Mobile Phone as a Laptop Replacement

Sorry for my nonexistent followers. My laptop’s video chip got fried and it took a month to get it running again. Thanks to the peeps of Cooltoyz for repairing my HP Pavilion!  Cooltoyz is located at Ash Creek Ortigas Avenue, just upstairs Starbucks near Xavier School. A month of not posting in this blog results to a lot of blog ideas stored for my next posts.

Since I have no desktop or a notebook spare, I found it difficult at first to get connected to my online friends. But out of desperation I make use of my Nokia N97 to check emails and Facebook account, using Globe’s WAP connection at first with their 5php per 15 minutes browsing. Although fast enough, I’m not satisfied with the WAP connection and the cost of just being able to connect online. Then I tried using my Sun Broadband’s (Plan 799) sim into my
