8.9 Earthquake and Tsunami Hits Japan, Tsunami Level 1 Warning in the Philippines

An 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake hits Japan triggering a tsunami that caused extensive damage. Tsunami Alert Level 1 is raised to 19 areas in the Philippines, meaning a tsunami may hit the Philippines caused by the quake in Japan. 

Areas included in the Tsunami Alert are: 




  • Batanes Islands




  • Cagayan




  • Ilocos Norte




  • Isabela




  • Quezon




  • Aurora




  • Camarines Norte




  • Camarines Sur




  • Albay




  • Catanduanes




  • Sorsogon




  • Northern Samar




  • Eastern Samar




  • Leyte




  • Northern Leyte




  • Surigao del Norte




  • Surigao del Sur




  • Davao Oriental




  • Davao del Sur




    • There is still no evacuation order yet but people on these areas are advised to be prepared and wait for further instructions.
