Facebook for Android App News Feed Not Working Properly

I’m so frustrated with my Facebook for Android Application right now. The News Feed forces to open a Facebook Mobile version instead of the usual Android App. I’m using a HTC Desire HD and tried to fix the problem by uninstalling the latest update, which apparently is the one to blame according to the comments on Android Market, then reinstalling the Facebook application. Doing so resolved the problem temporarily then goes back to the same Facebook Mobile version. Just uninstalling the update also fixed the problem but the notifications won’t load. I guess I have to choose between the two.

I have no problem with the Facebook Mobile version but I prefer the Android App version. I don’t know who is to blame on this; it could be Android or Facebook’s fault. But the “bug” coincides with the launching of Google+ yesterday, which is a social network would be competitor of the number one Social Networking giant. Could it be Facebook sabotaging Google’s Android? Just a speculation...  If you guys experiencing the same problem, hit the comment button.

Energizer XP1000: Battery Solution for Power Hungry Gadgets

I visited the HTC branch in SM North Annex a couple of days ago. I saw and held in my hands their new HTC Sensation, which is their flagship Android device. I was told that only 10 pieces are available that time and can be bought at around 31000 PhP.  I have intention yet of replacing my HTC Desire HD since I don’t have the budget and I’m still contented with it (Sensation’s HTC Sense UI and the dual core is tempting though). But I saw something I need in their store, a gadget that answer the problem to my power hungry HTC DHD, a portable charger.

Android phones are known to deplete battery fast. Especially if you keep on using applications, games and taking pictures with it. My HTC DHD usually lasts 10 hours with moderate to heavy use. A solution will be a bigger capacity battery replacement or a portable charger. Battery replacements that are out in the market today are usually made by other manufacturers, thus are not advisable to use and may affect the performance of your gadgets. Same thing with portable chargers, you can’t be sure if it’s okay to use them. But what I saw and bought the other day is made from a name I can trust, Energizer.

The Energizer XP1000 is a portable charger for most handheld gadgets like phones, MP3s etc. It promised additional 6 hours of talk time for mobile phones, 30 hours of extra music playback for MP3s and 34 hours extra talk time for Bluetooth headsets. It is rechargeable via USB that takes 3 to 4 hours to be full, has power capacity of 1000 mAh and with a rated output of DC 5V.

My first impression when I saw the package was the charger is thick and heavy, but it was the pouch and USB cable/pins that make the packaging look big. Inside you’ll find 1 power pack, 1 travel bag/pouch, user’s manual, 5V charging cable and cell phone tips for Apple, Blackberry, HTC, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, etc. The Nokia tip included is for the newer Nokia models only (the thin one).

After 8 hours of initial charge, I tested the Energizer XP1000 on my HTC Desire HD. Charging lasted only around an hour and managed to add around 50% power to my phone’s battery. I was kind of expecting more from that but I think it was enough since my device is connected via WiFi that time and has bigger battery capacity than the 1000mAh Energizer XP1000. I tested it also on my Sun Broadband portable 3G router and it worked fine. Too bad the 3G router don’t have a proper battery level indicator.

I recommend this portable charger to those who are always on the go. The retail price of 995 PhP may be expensive but it’s a better option than those old battery operated portable chargers.

Shakey's Delivery Paid Via PayPal

I was craving for pizza the other night and was looking for the hotline number for Shakey’s delivery when I noticed in their website that you can process your order online. So, I tried ordering online.

It was pretty easy. I just fill out a form for my information, there’s an option of saving your info so that you can just log in for your next transaction. Then, I chose the food I want from their menu which was properly presented. After that, I was directed to modes of payment upon checking out. That’s when I saw that there’s a pay via PayPal option. Since most of my income is processed via PayPal, I decided to try this option. I was directed to my log in a secure web page for my PayPal account and confirm my order. An email was sent immediately that notified me about the transaction and after 10 minutes a costumer representative from Shakey’s called me to confirm my order and location.

It was my first time to order online and first time to use my PayPal account for purchase. I normally transfer my PayPal money to my bank account here in the Philippines first before spending. The idea of fast and hassle free transaction is good and I just hope that all merchants are as efficient as Shakey’s. Well, as for the delivery time, the caller said to expect 45 minutes for my order to arrive at my footsteps, but the delivery guy was 10 minutes late. I guess the rain was to blame that time.

For ordering online just go to this link. For telephone transactions, call 77-777. Good Job Shakey’s!

An Android Experience from an Ex Symbian Lover.

The moment I started using Android (for about 3 months already), I knew that it’s the perfect Operating Software for me after jumping out of the sinking Symbian OS. Android combined with the latest full powered hardware in mobile world today, truly defines the word Mobility.

Meet Pacdroid, he'll knock out the competition.

Proper memory management means no more pesky “Low Memory” warning. I don’t have to worry about not being able to close properly any application. Android has proper presentation of shortcut icons without going through numerous folders and sub folders just to access a file or an app. The connectivity features stay connected unlike my old Symbian powered Nokia phones. It has a perfect WiFi tethering feature which is far from Nokia’s 3rd party app, Joikuspot. The number of useful applications alone available on Android Marketplace compared to Ovi Store is an obvious reason to prefer Android over Symbian (forget iPhone, Android Apps are mostly free while iPhone’s Apps are demo version only). And did I already mention how fast and responsive Android phones are? My old Nokia N97 would take more than a minute after booting while my new HTC Desire HD takes only 5 seconds on fast boot option and 30 seconds on normal boot.

I could go on and on and on with things on why I’m glad I switched to Android. But I still have to admit that Nokia still has the best camera phones. And Androids are power hungry devices. But I know the reason why mine drained easily, it’s because I love on using and playing with my Android phone.

Curse of a Busy Brain

Below is the last post on my Friendster Blog posted a couple years ago.

It’s 5 past 1, you’ll say it’s way over my bedtime. But my head said “I just woke up”, it’ll take a couple of hours for me to sleep again. A little stroll downstairs, a look inside the fridge, hoping to find sleep inside that cold shelf. I recall making a punch line weeks before- “My favorite past time is looking inside the refrigerator all day!”, just to get a laugh and an insult from my sisters. For now I am a pig, fifteen years before I was a lizard. Get that Darwin? A lizard to a pig in a span of fifteen years. What will it be after another fifteen years? I’ll be forty, good thing I started living healthy.Walked back to my room, checked that everything’s in place, a little detour to the CR, and took a leak just out of habit from my childhood. Yes, I’m still afraid to piss on my bed. To switch off or just leave the lights on? A little debate on my head took place. “Just leave it on and wake that notebook under your bed too” - the typical me decided. No luck, not a single bar on my neighbor’s wi-fi signal. “How about a sodoku game just to keep you sane?” - a curse of a busy brain. Hard mode will do, just to convince my mind a need to reboot. A minute and twenty more gone, the numbers placed accordingly. No more game, something else to invite sleep to my bed. A click and search for the wordpad. My fingers, a slave of a busy brain, typed for my eyes to read - It’s 5 past 1…

I hope this blog, Chopsuey Rice, will not be neglected and forgotten like my previous blogs from previous sites. It's been a month since my last post. I'm too lazy to post a thing, part of it to blame on the new Android phone (HTC Desire HD), the reason why I don't bother to open my PC anymore and also the new X Box 360.

As for Friendster, I finally opened and requested a download of my profile, pictures, etc. Not that I care about the memories attached (Ampalaya Anonymous alert!) on my FS page, it's just that I may want to read, look at whatever is left on that piece of the web. So long Friendster... You could've been the Social Network king.
