It's that time of the year again when Samsung lovers are thinking of upgrading to the recently announced Samsung Galaxy Note 5. For those who are planning to save money to be one of the first owners of this device, prepare to allocate a lot from your budget since it is one expensive phone.

The New Note 5 is available in 32 GB and 64 GB variant, the former is announced to be around $839.99 and the latter, $914.99. So, here in the Philippines it should be around 38,800 PhP for the 32 GB, and 42,200 PhP for the 64 GB. But, expect it to be more higher than that after taxes and stuff.

Double Moon in August 27, 2015?

There's this post circulating in the interwebs about the planet Mars getting too close to Earth this coming August 27th. But, there's something about this post that makes me want to scream H-O-A-X!!!

You see, I read about this post a number of times. It is actually a recurring hoax as old as year 2003. That's right, older than Facebook. It was circulated and passed along as chain emails.

There will never be a double moon. Mars will never appear huge as depicted in pictures. Although it is bigger than our moon, the distance will never make it appear as huge as the much closer moon. Although it might come into view in the east before dawn by August 27, 2015, it will just be a dot in our naked eye.

This is one variation of the story about having double moon:

Mars

The Red Planet is about to be spectacular!

This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again. The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide.

At a modest 75-power magnification Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

Share this with your children and grandchildren.

NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN

As the popular saying goes "If it is on the Internet it must be true" shows how gullible people are. So, before liking, commenting and worse, sharing this hoax or any posts like this again, better check the facts first. A simple search will suffice.

Reverse Bungee Accident in France

A supposed to be fun experience gone wrong during a Cannonball themed ride in Luna Park Cap Agde , located in the department of Herault in France. The ride, also known as reverse bungee, catapult bungee, ejection seat, or sling shot) is a modern type of fairground ride that was invented by Troy Griffin in circa 1978.

The ride consists of two telescopic gantry towers mounted on a platform, feeding two elastic ropes down to a two-person passenger car constructed from an open sphere of tubular steel. The passenger car is secured to the platform with an electro-magnetic latch as the elastic ropes are stretched. When the electromagnet is turned off, the passenger car is catapulted vertically with a g-force of 3–5, reaching an altitude of between 50 and 80 meters (180–260 ft).

The couple suffered injuries when an elastic band on the ride snapped, slamming the ride into the adjacent support tower. According to the witness, it was an hour before the couple was rescued and safely to the ground. Watch the video below.

Magic Sarap Banned in USA?!

Magic Sarap is an all-in-one food seasoning granule that is widely used by Filipinos in their kitchen. It is endorsed by Kris Aquino, Judy Ann Santos and Ai Ai delas Alas.

There is a post circulating in Facebook and other social networking sites claiming that Magic Sarap is banned in United States of America.

“Reports that this product will be banned in the United States due to cardiovascular health problems and other related diseases as a result of the ingredients in Magic sarap. I threw half of my drawer full of Magic Sarap packets which I brought home every year from the Philippines as a precaution. –Klimmy Gaviola.

So, I searched for the person who is responsible for the said allegations and found out that he is real, but the screenshot of the post, dated January 16th, that was being shared is nowhere to be found on his Facebook page.

With a desire to learn the truth, I did a little “investigation” (just a normal search on the web LOL) and came up with this certain “Viral” website called Unique Facts.

The website quoted the original poster, Klimmy Gaviola, but failed to prove the truth about the alleged ban in USA. All I read was a list of “Why You Should Never Cook with Magic Sarap”. I advised you not to visit the website since it keeps on redirecting me to other websites even when I’m not clicking any link.

Another search lead me to a forum in the website called Visa Journey. A member posted “As I went through US customs at SFO, the Filipino woman checking food in the luggage asked if I was bringing any Magic Sarap additive or chicharon (pork skin cracklings). I said no. She then said those are banned food products. Any other foodstuff from the Philippines that's banned? Is bagoong banned too?” To which another member replied “Magic Sarap contains chicken, chicken is not allowed. You can bring personal amounts of dried fish though.  Bagoong can be brought, but its pretty easy to buy in the USA and you don't want it getting broken in your bags!”

Again, not proving if Magic Sarap is to be banned in the United States.

And finally, my search leads me to a statement by Maggi in their website www.maggi.ph.

“The safety and quality of our products and the welfare of our consumers are always the top priorities for Nestlé. We assure our consumers that MAGGI MAGIC SARAP is safe to consume.

Like any food product that is not registered for sale in the US, MAGGI MAGIC SARAP may face restrictions from Customs authorities if the quantity suggests that the product is being brought into the country for re-sale or for commercial purposes.

MAGGI MAGIC SARAP is not associated with any health issues and complies with all food safety, quality and regulatory standards of the Philippine Food & Drug Administration and that of Nestlé.

For 149 years now, Nestlé has been manufacturing and distributing food products to meet the nutritional needs of consumers all over the world.  Throughout our long history, we have never compromised the safety of our products and the integrity of the ingredients from which they are manufactured.”

Conclusion: I doubt that Magic Sarap will be banned in the United States, but who knows… I also believe that excessive consumption of food seasoning regardless of brand is bad to our health. Not that I don’t use food seasoning when I cook, but I just use a minimal amount whenever I do so. The moral of the story: Don’t believe anything that is posted in the Internet, get your facts first before reposting, liking or commenting.

I'm Still Alive!!!

It's been a long time since my last update. I've been very busy with a lot of things. I don't know if I still have the writer in me.

I guess I'll try to update this blog from time to time. My line of work don't give me access to unlimited and fast Internet connection though. But, I'll try to post some stuff.

A lot of things changed since my last post here. If I was still blogging, I could've wrote about my travels. Been to different part of the Philippines, Asian Countries, Brazil, the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, and the latest trip was a 12 day 8 European Countries tour with the Family. I could have wrote about my new culinary skills. Or, my newly acquired talent of sleeping straight for 16 hours. Yeah, I quit running around the same time I stopped writing here. I used to ran 21KMs, but now I can hardly finish a 3 KMs run.

Everything's okay.

Why did I have a hiatus? I don't know... I tried building a new blog only to discontinue it like what I did with this one. I guess, I was tired of writing. Was. I'm planning to change that now. So, anyone getting update from here? Let me know.
