This is my first time to try the Blogger App for iPad.:) Arrived at Puerto Princesa Airport just a few minutes past 12 via Cebu Pacific. The flight went smooth. We will be staying here at The Legend Hotel. Will update later.

Update: Tried using the Dolphin Browser in my Android phone to update, it's better than the Blogger for iPad App.

Very tiring day. Been to the crocodile farm, Baker's Hill and other places. We're now back in our hotel room.

I Love Chicken Bon Chon!

I was walking around Robinson’s Galleria yesterday and passed by Chicken Bon Chon. Since I heard a lot of good things about this place, I decided to give it a try. But since I was alone, I ordered 6 pcs. chicken wings hot and spicy and 2 fish tacos for takeout.

For the takeout test, it took me 45 minutes to get home and I was surprised how the chicken wings retained its crispiness. It is so flavourful and the hot and spicy did not disappoint my spicy tongue.

Since my 9 year old niece, Alexia, did not want to try the hot and spicy chicken wings, I gave her one of the fish tacos. She’s a really picky eater but did not hesitate on trying the fish taco (she judges the food as edible or not just by the look of it). And when I asked her if she liked it, she said “nagustuhan ko”.

I will definitely be going back to Chicken Bon Chon and will recommend it to my friends.

How to Change Back to Old Facebook Layout? (September 2011)

The new Facebook, love it or hate it. Just the same day with the official launching for all of Google+, Facebook did some major changes from notifications, size of pictures (bigger), News Feed, addition of Subscriptions, Smart Lists and even with their email notifications.

Every time something changes, there’ll be 2 reactions, it’s whether you’ll like it or hate it. If you like the new Facebook layout, good for you. But if you want to reverse it back to how it looks, here’s something you may want to try.

  • Go to Account Settings.
  • Go to Language.
  • Select English UK.

I tried it and it worked on my Facebook Profile. If you changed your mind and want to adopt the new Facebook Interface, just change the Language back to English US.

HTC Sensation XE with Beats by Dr. Dre

| Posted in , , | Posted on 9/17/2011 11:36:00 AM

Not good news for those who bought their HTC Sensation early, the dual core Android got an upgrade. Announced to be released this October, the new Sensation XE may be the perfect Android phone. It is the first phone to be shipped with Beats Audio with a special pair of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

You might worry about the battery of the new Sensation XE since buyers will obviously use it a lot for listening to music, but HTC got it covered by upgrading the battery to 1730 mAh. It builds on the original HTC Sensation adding a speedier 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The Sensation XE features a 4.3-inch qHD screen, 768MB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera capable of 1080p video recording.

Another thing to expect, a more expensive price tag...

Unlimited Messaging and Call Services for Mobile Phones

If you read my last post about Unlimited Messaging Promos provided by Telcos here in the Philippines and think that it’s too costly to subscribe to these services, you might want to explore other options to stay in touch with your love ones.

I am not a heavy texter and I rarely call someone unless it’s urgent. But I still manage to keep up with my family and friends by using Free Services using my mobile phone. But the thing is, it’s not really 100% free. If you have an Internet connection and have a WiFi enabled phone, then you’ll do just fine. There are number of Instant Messaging applications you can use to communicate with your friends.

Facebook Chat

Well, almost everyone’s in Facebook right? You can use this to talk to your friends whenever they’re online. I have a Facebook for Android installed on my phone and it’s running 24/7. The only time I can’t send/receive message is when my portable router is out of juice or when there’s no signal (rarely happen with Sun Broadband).

Skype for Mobile

What I love about Skype is you can make high quality voice and video calls with it. The setback is, not most of your friends have a Skype account.

Yahoo Messenger
Yahoo is the favourite email service of Filipinos and many have a YM account. What I don’t like about YM is the presence of Spam Bots that will send you tons of messages the moment you log in. It’s still dependable though but you may not read old messages after logging out.

Viber

Viber is an application for iOS and Android devices that let users send messages and call each other using the Internet. Once installed, you don’t have to log in again even after rebooting your phone. The sound quality is pretty good (depending on connection).

There are other applications that provide Instant Messaging Services like Nimbuzz, eBuddy, etc., you just have to find what’s perfect for you. Nimbuzz is a great app that let you chat with YM, Facebook and other IM services under one account. The thing is you’ll be able to save especially when talking to your friends overseas. These apps are recommended to those who have WiFi connection or unlimited data plans on their mobile phones.

Sun Cellular is now joining Globe and Smart with providing unlimited texting (SMS) service to all networks. Starting today, September 13, 2011, you can enjoy TEXTALL20. This is available through Sun Xpressload or Sun Regular Load conversion.

Sun’s TEXTALL20 is cheaper compared to what the other networks are offering but it doesn’t have a free call and mobile Internet browsing.

For Comparison:

Globe Telecoms’ Unlimited Text to all network promo:

SUPERUNLI ALLTXT 25: Unli texts to all networks, 1 hour of mobile internet and 10 minutes of calls to Globe/TM, valid for 1 day.

Smart Buddy’s Unlimited Text to all network promo:

LAHATTxt Unli 25: Text, call and surf: Unlimited all-net texts + 10 minutes SMART-to-SMART calls + 25mb consumable internet for 1 day.

Facebook for Android Can't Leave Comment Bug

14

| Posted in , , , , , , | Posted on 9/08/2011 12:00:00 PM

The Facebook for Android Application is getting worse with every update. There was an issue before with News Feed not working properly and now users can’t leave a comment on other users’ status. Another thing, when posting a status using the Facebook for Android app, it would only show “posted via mobile”, not the usual “posted via Android” thingy. My suspicion is the old problem with the News Feed is not really fixed and Facebook kind of ported the mobile version of Facebook to the News Feed page.

If you’re a Facebook for Android user, you can leave a comment on a status by either waiting for somebody to leave a comment first, or by going to the user’s profile and leaving a comment on the status. I recommend the latter.  If you guys are experiencing the same problem, hit the comment button below.

Yahoo Mail for Android Notification Bug

| Posted in , , , , , | Posted on 9/08/2011 04:42:00 AM

My Yahoo Mail for Android used to work perfectly, but this morning it started to act weird. I was surprised when I heard the notification sound go off as if there were tons of messages going through my inbox. When I picked up my phone, I did saw there were more than 30 unread messages, which is a surprise since I usually get an average of 8 messages overnight (3 accounts combined). But when I checked my inbox, there were only around 7 unread messages. So, I thought it was just a little bug. But after a few minutes, I received the same 30+ unread notifications again with just 1 unread message in the inbox. It happened for every mail I was getting.

So, I decided to check if other Yahoo Mail Users are getting the same problem. I checked the Android market and there I read comments of the same problem on the Yahoo Mail for Android Application page. My initial solution was to turn off the annoying new mail notification sound since it was interfering with my nap. I did try rebooting my phone but the notification problem was not solved. So, I tried the ultimate solution by uninstalling and reinstalling the Yahoo Mail application. The last step solved the bug and it is now working the perfectly.

Quadcore Android Tablets and Smartphones

If you think your dual core tablets and smart phones are super fast, you’ll surely be amazed with NVIDIA’s “Kal-el” quad core tablets expected as soon as October this year. Yes, it is named after Superman, who everybody knows has lightning speed. It is said to be 5x faster than Tegra 2.

Quad core powered smart phones are expected to be released next year. What manufacturer is still unknown as of the moment. It will not be a surprise if Kal-el will be called Tegra 3 as it will be the successor to Tegra 2.

Seagate 4TB GoFlex External hard Drive

Seagate announced today that it is shipping the highest capacity hard drive in the industry, the 4TB GoFlex Hard Drive. It is now available via www.seagate.com and selected online retailers at a suggested retail price of $249.99 USD.

“With the pre-loaded back up software, the GoFlex Desk external drive provides automatic, continuous back with encryption for all your files. The included USB 3.0 adapter also works with USB 2.0 ports making it easy to connect to your Windows or Mac computer. The adapter also features an illuminated gauge to display available space on the drive.”

I’m impressed with Seagate’s external hard drives. I’m personally using a 500 GB Free Agent as my back up, but it’s nearly full now with my collection of movies, MP3s Pictures and documents. Disk space is very important nowadays, since files get bigger in size. Video files used to be on an average of 750 MB, but now occupied around 1.5 GB. Cloud storage is an alternative, but it is costly and requires fast Internet connection. I think with a 4TB hard drive, I’ll never have to delete not so important files just to allow disk space for priority files.

HTC Desire HD Software Update

| Posted in , , , , | Posted on 9/06/2011 10:50:00 AM

Received an update today for my HTC Desire HD. I was excited at first thinking that I’ll be getting the HTC Sense 3.0 after the update but turned out that it was just a minor update. My old software number was 2.37.707.3, which was updated to 2.50.707.4, same Android version of 2.3.3 and HTC Sense 2.1.

The update is for “Data transfer application enhancement” which is recommended for former BlackBerry users.

I know that I can get Sense 3.0 and even the unreleased HTC Sense 3.5 manually by flashing custom ROM to my device, but it will not guarantee full usability. So, it looks like I still have to wait for an official update from HTC. For those who want to risk and upgrade their HTC Desire HD, read and follow instructions at this forum.

How to Make an Android App of Your Website?

4

| Posted in , , , , | Posted on 9/03/2011 12:34:00 PM

Do you want to make a mobile application for your blog or website but don’t know how? You’re lucky because you’re reading this awesome blog of mine and I’ll teach you how to make an Android app of your website. It’s so easy and it doesn’t require any programming skills.

Say hello to AppsGeyser. AppsGeyser is a web platform that allows normal people (like you and me) to convert any web content to apps for Android OS. Why create an app when people can easily enter your URL in their browser? Well, since the inception of apps, people prefer to access information by simply clicking on an icon than using the browser. It’s faster and it gives your website or blog a wow factor.

First, you have to register and make an account by going to this link.  After logging in your account, click on the “Create app now” button. After that, you’ll see 3 options: Create an app from Mobile website, web widget code or web page content. I chose the first option. The rest is no brainer, you’ll be asked to input your website URL, App Name, refresh time, description, icon, etc. After that, you can test the app on your Android device by scanning the QR Code or by downloading the app on your phone.

My blog's Android app installed on my HTC. Too lazy to change the icon...

If you want to publish and distribute your Android App on the Android Market, you have to register as a developer using your Google Account. But the problem is, you’ll have to pay $25 first to make an account. But you can distribute your new website app through AppsGeyser for free. If you want a preview of my app, go to this link.

Or scan the QR Code below.

You have the option to choose an icon and add tabs to your app pointing to other URLs. That’s it. Let me know if you tried AppsGeyser by leaving a comment below.

Is Samsung Galaxy Note’s 5.3” Screen Too Big For You?

0

| Posted in , , , | Posted on 9/02/2011 11:46:00 AM

How important is a mobile phone’s screen real estate? For me, I want something big enough to watch pictures, play videos and enjoy 3D games, but not too big that it’ll be difficult to hold or a little awkward when putting it next to my ear when taking calls. My ideal screen for mobile phones would be 4.3”, anything bigger than that crosses the tablet category.

The new Samsung Galaxy Note has a 5.3” screen. It is a feature rich, powerful phone and you’ll almost see no flaw on its specs. The battery is a 2500 mAh, which I believe is enough considering that the wider the screen, the more power it requires. It has a stylus which you can’t find on most smartphones at present. I think it’s useful when you want to make doodles on some pictures and for note taking.

Samsung Galaxy Note i9220 specs:
5.3-inch Super AMOLED display @ 1280×800 resolution
Gorilla Glass display
1.4GHz dual-core processor Exynos chip
Mali-400MP GPU
1GB RAM
up to 32GB via microSD (2GB included)
HSPA+ 21Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 3.0
8MP rear camera
1080p full HD video recording
2MP front-facing camera
GPS w/ aGPS support
FM radio tuner
Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread
Samsung TouchWiz UI 4.0

Despite almost being perfect, it’ll come down to whether you like having a cumbersome phone (or a mini tablet) that will be hard to carry. I’m sure putting it on your pockets is not an option. Or you will not think portability as an issue and enjoy the big screen Android. If only Samsung Galaxy S2 has the same battery...

Price of Samsung Galaxy Note is said to be cheaper than the Galaxy S2 and will be released later this year.

Update: Samsung Galaxy Note is expected to have a very expensive price tag of around $1000.

Why Joining a Group Buying Site a Bad Idea

0

| Posted in , , , , , , | Posted on 9/01/2011 08:00:00 PM

The first and last time I wrote about Group Buying Sites was last January. I had an optimistic initial reaction about them thinking that I’ll be able to save money when spending on discounted items/deals. But after being bombarded with offers on my emails, SMS and Facebook News Feeds, I realized that I don’t really need to spend on those things. What happened is I received a lot of unwanted adverts leading to temptation to spend on things I don’t even need.

I can always unsubscribe to emails, block a Facebook Page on my News Feed but how about those text messages I receive? And to realize that I’m receiving a SMS message from a Group Buying Site I don’t remember signing up with.

I know there are individuals who enjoy spending on great deals on group buying sites, good for them. I also heard of bad experiences with them. Some are scammed, mislead, had a bad customer service experience, etc. Not that I’m discouraging others on joining these sites, if you really want to splurge your money on great deals, it’s your own decision. But you might want to think before purchasing a deal that is advertised on a group buying site. Is it really something I need? Do I understand the whole deal? Is it really as good as advertised?

From my own experience, a deal looks more appealing when many already bought the coupon. You’ll usually see the number of person (who bought the deal) and the time remaining ticking away creating that urge to not let a good deal slip away. The group mentality will start to kick in thinking that since many bought the deal, it must be something interesting.

A word of advice, if you're spending money you weren't planning to spend, or money you can't afford, it's not really going to end up being a bargain at all.
